Shamrock Additives FLUOROPOLYMER ADDITIVES Shamrock recommends three high performance additives for outstanding performance in powder coatings. SST™-3V is produced using a special grade of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) characterized by low oil absorption. It does not affect surface profile and is ideal for applications in which smoothness and mar/abrasion resistance are prime concerns. Fluoro™C-369 is designed to increase abrasion resistance, while maintaining high gloss and enhancing block resistance. Fluoro P-77, a fluorinated copolymer, provides high gloss smoothness and transit abrasion resistance. S-SERIES™ PE WAXES These polyethylene (PE) waxes promote slip and improve abrasion and mar resistance without affecting gloss and recoat adhesion. They also prevent package and fingernail marring. Recommended products for powder applications are S-379H, S-394N5 and S-395N5. These low-density PE waxes vary in molecular weight, hardness and melt point for use in a wide range of applications. S-363 PP WAX ALLOY This polypropylene (PP) alloy provides outstanding scuff, fingernail mar and block resistance. It produces low gloss satin finishes without the burnishing or polishing effects of silica. TABER TIGER™ SERIES Taber Tiger 5512 is an extremely hard, highly crystalline PE with a high melt point. As such, it is ideal for improving resistance to Taber abrasion, falling sand abrasion and can slide wear. Super Taber 5509 PTFE-PE additive provides excellent abrasion resistance with added slip. POWDERSLIP™ 25 PE-PTFE ADDITIVE This PE-PTFE blended product is excellent for preventing powder from caking, reducing coefficient of friction and improving the Taber abrasion of coatings — without affecting gloss and recoat adhesion. FLUOROSLIP™ 778 PE-PTFE ADDITIVE FluoroSLIP 778 is made from a premium grade of PE in combination with PTFE to provide excellent slip and mar/Taber abrasion resistance. POWDERTEX™ PTFE TEXTURING AGENTS PowderTex 61 is a specially processed PTFE for producing satin gloss and reproducible, controlled “orange-peel” texture. It is our most widely used texturing agent for powder coatings. PowderTex 94 is a premium fluoropolymer with a high melt point that produces reproducible, controlled texture with low coefficient of friction at concentrations of just 0.4-1.0%. INCORPORATION TIPS Shamrock wax additives can be easily incorporated and deagglomerated. For the best results, we suggest that all of these additives be incorporated in the pre-extrusion blend.
